Smallfry Angler Thomas King caught this impressive 19.5 kg (43 lb) narrowbarred mackerel (Scomberomorus commerson) on April 11th, while fishing out of Madang, Papua New Guinea aboard the Drug Runner. Using only 6 kg (12 lb) line, King skillfully played the fish for approximately 20 minutes after it took the ballyhoo he was trolling. If approved, the catch will replace the existing male Smallfry world record which currently stands at 16.55 kg (36 lb 7 oz).
Angler Martini Arostegui - IGFA Representative from Washington, USA – recently submitted this 8.05 kg (17 lb 12 oz) lustrous pomfret (Eumegistus illustris) for a potential new All-Tackle world record. Arostegui was deep-dropping in 1500 feet of water when the fish hit, and he surprisingly needed only 20 minutes to bring the fish up from the depths. If approved, Arostegui’s catch will replace the existing IGFA world record which stands at 7.71 kg (17 lb).
